It’s been a busy few months! Perhaps you can relate. It feels like life is constantly pulling us in multiple directions. Between chasing our two energetic boys around the house and juggling various errands and events, it seems like there’s never a dull moment. However, amidst the chaos, there’s one recent event that stands out in my mind – the new tattoo I got on Friday night.
As a gift from my wife Laurie, she offered to give me a tattoo for Father’s Day this year. Knowing how much I’ve been itching to get one, she saw it as a special way to commemorate my very first Father’s Day. And she was right.
The idea of getting inked again has been on my mind since my last tattoo in 2003. But I couldn’t quite decide on a design or justify the expense, especially after getting married and having twin boys. However, with Laurie’s generous offer, I had a newfound motivation to finally take the plunge.
At first, I considered getting a Sacred Heart of Jesus with the words “Love Wins” wrapped around it. However, I wasn’t entirely sure if it was the perfect choice. I played around with a few other ideas, including a winged heart, before ultimately settling on an extra bold font that perfectly encapsulated the boldness of the concept itself.
In addition to the powerful message of “Love Wins,” I also incorporated two significant dates in my life – April 28, 2007 (the date I married my beautiful wife) and October 21, 2010 (the day our boys were born). These dates hold immense meaning to me, and I wanted to symbolize their importance in my tattoo.
After finalizing the design, Laurie and I headed to the tattoo shop on Friday night, leaving our boys under the care of my parents, who were blissfully unaware of our little adventure.
And in the end, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The tattoo serves as a reminder of the power of love and the victories it brings.
While discussing the design with my friend Frank, I mentioned how challenging it can sometimes be to truly believe in the notion that Love Wins. Believing in it requires living it, which means sacrificing our own desires and selflessly giving ourselves to others. It’s far easier to act selfishly and be unkind to others than it is to lay down our lives for them. But despite the difficulties, I still firmly believe that love is the ultimate victor. It’s the only force that has ever triumphed and will continue to do so.
